How is Saltverk sustainable?
Saltverk makes flaky sea salt in Iceland’s Westfjords using 100% renewable geothermal energy for evaporation and operations, resulting in zero CO₂/CH₄ emissions. We prioritize shorter, lower-emission shipping routes, and we offset carbon emissions.
What is unique about Saltverk’s production process?
We hand-harvest delicate flakes in Iceland’s Westfjords and are among the very few to evaporate seawater using 100% renewable geothermal heat. The result is clean, crisp crystals with a minimal footprint, and we continually refine the process.
Do you offset carbon emissions?
Yes. We invest in offsets (e.g., Iceland Carbon Fund/Kolviður, SeaTrees blue-carbon projects, BEF/Akres Wind).
Are you Climate Neutral Certified?
Yes. Certified by the Change Climate Project. In 2023, our U.S. emissions of total 122 tCO₂e. We are reducing emissions with process upgrades and shipment consolidation, while offsetting the rest.
